The Project
East Midlands Gateway is a high-profile, three-year project to create a 700-acre commercial development, incorporating a strategic rail freight interchange, at the heart of the UK’s transport network. Once complete, East Midlands Gateway will create 7,250 jobs and link the road and rail networks. This will produce one of the country’s largest logistic centres and will improve the highways in the area.
Our Work
The nine-month project which began in March 2018 saw Toppesfield lay 52,000 tonnes of CBGM and Asphaltic materials. Toppesfield worked closely with Winvic and their wider supply chain in the careful planning of the project to ensure safe, efficient and high-quality works were delivered.
Results & Achievements
- Achieving critical path and fixed programme date to open A453/A50 Fast Lane Link and A50EB/M1SB Fly Over to facilitate the final stage of construction.
- Used alternative techniques and key HE efficiency drivers to support construction such as use of Warm Mix Asphalts, Echelon Paving, Ex Situ Recycling and opening planed surfaces to traffic.
‘After establishing a large regional presence in the Midlands from a standing start a little over three years ago, it has been extremely satisfying to help deliver such a significant and important project which will help boost the regional and national economy’
Matt Riley, Regional Director
