The Project
The delivery of Magna Park’s new million square foot warehouse saw Toppesfield deliver major surfacing works to the park itself as well as the surrounding infrastructure to help with the increase in traffic flow and improve the strategic network around the development. During the works Toppesfield collaborated with various clients, demonstrating our ability to communicate and making sure all works were delivered to the same exceptional standard, on time.
The schemes consisted of works for the warehouse contractors, TSL, surfacing the new carpark, entranceway, and footpaths. Which linked onto our scheme with VFL, on the north tie-in off the A5. In addition, Toppesfield surfaced a new access road to the park from the Mere Lane entrance and reprofiled the A4303 roundabout, widening and resurfacing the approach.
Our Work
Working for client VolkerFitzpatrick on behalf of Highways England, Toppesfield were contracted to work on the A5, including laying base and binder to the main section of the A5, working under both full road closure and traffic management. These works also continued to the north tie-in road, linking to the park works contracted by Leicester City Council. To minimise disruption, a large section of the works was completed over a 54-hour possession. Using two gangs on a continuous rotation, Toppesfield planed and resurfaced 2,650 tonnes of material.
The works for TSL and VolkerFitzpatrick tied in at the entrance of Magna Park. Working for both companies individually, meant that the construction and material specification for the sections were different. To overcome difficulties that could arise with this, Toppesfield scheduled in the works at the same time, and were able to have a seamless transition by electing to lay the superior material.
Results & Achievements
- Coordinated delivery of multiple schemes from various clients
- Delivery of over 1,000 tonnes per shift at full construction, maxing at nearly 1,200 tonnes
- Delivered on time, with deadline brought forward from November to September
- Planed and reinstated over 1,800 tonnes on the first shift of 54-hour possession works.
